Why People Need a Resume Writing Business

Starting a resume writing business can initially be done on a small budget, and it’s a great way to earn some cash with your writing and word processing skills. With the availability of templates on word processing programs and numerous online and offline sources, why do people still need someone to put together a resume for them? There are many reasons and here are the most common:

  • Limited word processing skills and/or lack of equipment. Many people can’t afford a personal computer of their own, or don’t even know what a template is, so the skills and equipment writers take for granted can be a valuable service.
  • Lack of time. Between holding down a job and raising a family, people just don’t have the time to react when a new employment opportunity or sudden job termination occurs. Being able to call on a reliable writer on short notice to create or revise a resume can ease some of the stress related to a job hunt and ensure no important information is forgotten.
  • Difficulty promoting oneself in writing. When writing down a complete summary of their work experience, people often make the mistake of just listing the responsibilities of each position they’ve held instead of highlighting their strongest areas and biggest achievements. For example, someone with a retail service position would definitely have experience handling cash and interacting with people, but did he or she ever win an award for outstanding service, or make a suggestion that improved efficiency and saved an employer thousands of dollars? Well-written resumes don’t simply provide a work history; they separate the best applicants from average ones.
  • To get an edge. Today many people have excellent word processing skills and the ability to sell themselves on paper, so when applying for a job it stands to reason that other applicants do too. Sometimes paying to have a resume crafted specifically for a certain role, and having it worked on by people who specialise in resume writing, can provide an edge over the competition. The job market is more competitive than it’s ever been, so the professionalism offered by a resume writing business is highly valued and viewed by many as a worthwhile expense.

Regardless of their reasons, the fact remains that a lot of people still need resume writers. This is true in a growing economy where new positions and jobs present themselves more frequently, or in a shrinking economy where people suddenly find themselves jobless. In either case, there will always be a high demand for the resume writing business.
